January Makamba, Tanzania’s Environment Minister has asked for a ransom before releasing rain to Kenya.
The Minister’s request follows media reports that claimed Kenya’s rain was stuck in Tanzania.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, rain-bearing winds are sitting in Tanzania because of low pressure.
Kenya’s weatherman said the rain-bearing winds were ‘sitting’ in Tanzania owing to low-pressure systems to push them northwards to Kenya.
Mr. Makamba took to his twitter handle demanding Kenya’s actress & Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyong’o as ransom.
“Give us back our Lupita and we will release the rain,” he tweeted.
The tweet did not go well with Kenyan netizens who joined forces expressing how the actress is a golden treasure to them.
Kenya Meteorological Department pointed out that seasonal rains are caused by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) but currently it has not moved northwards to Kenya.
It added that the ITCZ is currently sitting in Tanzania because the high-pressure systems in the south have not strengthened to the point that they will push the it Northwards.
